Opened in July 2022, The LaSalle Chicago, Autograph Collection is a luxury, boutique hotel located in the heart of Chicago’s Financial District—an area known for its grand architecture and historic significance. The hotel occupies the top five floors of the 22-story Continental and Commercial National Bank Building at 208 S. LaSalle Street, a Classical Revival landmark designed by famed architect Daniel Burnham and completed in 1914. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building provides a richly historic backdrop for The LaSalle’s refined and contemporary hospitality. The hotel features 232 elegantly appointed guest rooms, a signature restaurant, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and 7,500 square feet of meeting and event space, establishing it as one of Marriott’s most sophisticated recent additions.

The LaSalle design is a nod to the old Chicago’s movers and shakers and the environment that evolved around them. In the lobby and bar, deep rich wood tones, classic stone flooring and accents, and rich color palettes are paired with carefully tailored high-end finishes. The curated art collection, including a one-of-a-kind mosaic art installation, further enhances sophisticated and exclusive feel. Subtle art deco influences infused in the design help contribute to the timeless elegance and opulence of the hotel.

While the LaSalle mends well with the architectural grandeur of the Financial District, its thoughtfully bespoken design makes it irreplaceable. In honor of the history behind the bones of the original building, we challenged ourselves to tailor millwork and finishes to the unique characteristics of the spaces. While this resulted in many challenges, it also created the opportunity to design ‘secret’ spaces like the Retreat and the restaurant’s private dining room.

The library Retreat evokes an old-school charm and timeless feel with a rich color palette and refined seating. The intricate floor pattern, grand fireplace, and sophisticated palette creates an exclusive experience. The elevated yet casual setting provides a space perfect for business and leisure.

The guestrooms are equally distinctive with soaring ceilings. Custom details adorn the rooms, from high-end luxury furniture to quality finishes. Every guest feels important in their room. The guest bathroom is well-appointed with beautiful stone and fixtures that are luxurious with a residential feel.

Despite the inherent challenges posed by the building’s original structure, the project team embraced each constraint as an opportunity to innovate. The final result is a property that feels both rooted in Chicago’s architectural legacy and distinctly modern. The LaSalle Chicago is not only a celebration of design but also a testament to the power of intentional, collaborative placemaking.
