Credited Hours: 1 AIA (applies to IDCEC, self reported)Acoustic design is often undervalued—until it’s too late. This course equips attendees to design practical, cost-effective solutions that improve speech privacy and auditory comfort. You’ll learn how to interpret acoustic ratings, apply treatments with purpose, and avoid common design missteps. Whether you're planning a space or refining it post-occupancy, you'll leave with a clear, practical framework to create environments where people can focus, communicate, and perform at their best.
Learning Objectives:
Our Evolving Soundscape: Understand shifts in our environment and how this impact workers and wellbeing.
Science and Perception: Examine how science, our senses, and personal expectations shape our perception of auditory comfort and speech privacy.
Deconstructing Sound for Design Insight: Deepen your knowledge of sound by breaking down its components to better understand and define auditory comfort and speech privacy.
Strategies + Standards for Acoustic Control: Explore effective strategies for controlling sound in the built environment and how to apply them effectively.
Designing from Concept to Completion: Develop a comprehensive acoustical design strategy that aligns with project goals and guides decision-making from schematic design through post-occupancy evaluation.
