Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement. To celebrate it this year, IIDA Professional Development invites you to join the “Out is the New In: Designing Workspaces that foster Natural Connection”. The human body was made for connection - connection to mother nature and all of the health-infusing, mood-boosting benefits she has to offer. The reality is that people spend most of their waking hours indoors, whether in the office, working from home or anywhere in between. It is becoming incredibly important to design workspaces that promote happiness, health, and productivity, through the purposeful infusion of biophilic design. This is particularly important now, as we re-imagine what the workplace will look like going forward. This CEU educates participants on why people need a strong connection to nature, the benefits of making these connections through purposeful design, and the tools architects and designers can use to bring the indoors out and the outdoors in in both practical and inspirational ways in the future.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the strong connection the human body has to nature and the implications that too much time spent working indoors has on human health and wellness.
  2. Discuss the strategies and benefits of bringing outdoor elements in to create more healthy, inspiring, productive interior work environments for today’s workforce.
  3. Examine the equally important need to bring the indoors outside, looking at solutions for exterior workspaces that are both natural and inspiring along with practical and productive.
  4. Explore what the future might hold in terms of spaces and products that could outfit the biophilic-inspired office for tomorrow’s generation of knowledge workers.

Meet our speaker, Jennifer Roberts! Jen has 20 years’ experience in the contract furniture industry and has been a member of the Haworth Boston team for the last 5 years. She is passionate about the “Out Is The New In” CEU and feels strongly that biophilic design is even more important now, as we work toward a return to the office. Learning this content changed her life and her relationship with nature and hopes that the same will be true for you.
