MDS/Miller Dyer Spears is expanding its team to support the many exciting opportunities in workplace strategy and design, as well as K-12 schools, higher education, and science and technology. We are seeking Senior Interior Designers and/or Architects with a passion for creating dynamic, forward-thinking environments and the aptitude to think strategically about industry trends.

They are thought leaders, engaged in the current changing dynamics of how and where people work, learn, socialize, create, and discover. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Workplace Strategies

  • Prepare for and conduct client visioning sessions
  • Create and implement user surveys
  • Correlate and analyze response data
  • Present findings and make recommendations to clients
  • Maintain expertise on current workplace strategy trends
  • Provide thought leadership to clients and the industry
  • Help us apply these trends to the other project sectors such as education and Institutional.

Programming

  • Assess the space needs for clients
  • Document the space program

Space Planning

  • Prepare test fits and other space layout plans
  • Work with the client to build consensus on preferred plan

Design

  • Work independently or as part of a team to formulate interior design concepts
  • Oversee the production of design imagery to represent design concepts
  • Oversee the selection of finishes consistent with interior design concept

Furniture Selection

  • Work independently or as part of a team to formulate a furniture concept
  • Maintain expertise in furniture systems, brands, and styles.
  • Develop furniture budgets
  • Oversee the creation of furniture specifications.
  • Oversee the process of reviewing bids, finding any discrepancies, and presenting data to the client.
  • Assist in furniture procurement through review of submittals

Documentation

  • Responsible for the creating of entire or partial drawing sets relative to the size and scope of the project.
  • Oversee production support staff to ensure that documents are through and complete
  • Oversee the production of specifications including, but not limited to, finishes.
  • Provide knowledge of millwork and interior detailing to the project team.
  • Assist with LEED documentation on projects.

Business Development

  • Maintain a network of industry contacts
  • Assist in the promotion of the firm to potential clients

Marketing

  • Assist in the procurement of future work through the creation of proposal material and by participating in interviews.

Mentoring

  • Oversee the professional development of emerging interior design talent.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team setting
  • Experience leading client conversations
  • Ability to effectively convey design ideas
  • Through knowledge of building systems, materials, codes, and regulations
  • Skills in managing design through digital design technology (Revit, SketchUp, rendering).
  • Proficient hands-on skills with digital design technology.
  • Proficient with spreadsheets and polling software. Experience with Power BI or Tableau is desirable.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 12+ years of experience in architecture or interior design
  • Degree in interior design or professional degree in architecture
  • Registered Architect or NCIDQ certified interior designer.
  • LEED and/or Well accredited professional
